Launch of Visual Decoder for Stories Programme

PictureThink launched our Visual Decoder for Stories programme this week!

In collaboration with Times Reads, our first event was organised as a public storytelling session at Kinokuniya Main Store on 10 Aug 2023. We chose to promote reading and thinking about stories because stories give children a glimpse into different cultures, times and experiences. Stories teach children lessons about life and the world they live in.

During the event, Joyce, our Chief Education Officer, read the story of “Flora and Nora”. After that, she taught the children how to draw the visual decoder pictures based on the story. We closed the event by giving the children a personalised bookmark and goodie bag.

In conjunction with the launch event, we also organised a contest (for 5-8 yo) so that children can put into practice what they have learnt about the Visual Decoder for Stories. The objective of this contest is to encourage children to use pictures to aid retelling, exploring and consolidating what they know about a story. This contest closes on 31 Aug 23. For full details, please visit our website here.

Here are some pictures from the workshop.
